The Family Register for the letter  ש  (Shin / S), also known as Register 17B,  of the Jewish Community of Thessaloniki is online in the REGIE database ↗.
It is one of the official Registers of the Jewish Community of Thessaloniki recovered after World War II.

This register lists 6 685 individuals whose family name begins with the letter ש  (S / Sh), the Hebrew letter corresponding to names that start with the letter S (sound S / Shin) when written in Latin characters. In this register, you will also find the names and first names of spouses, children, and fathers as well as their age, occupation and family address.

 

These are data from the continuous census of families between 1917 and 1941, the year the Nazis arrived.

Each family is identified by:

1. The volume number in which it appears;
2. The family number (internal to the volume);
3. The page number (internal to the volume).

For the time, this is a detailed identification of families, now allowing us to locate the members of each family in the broadest sense, as male children generally "inherit" the same family number, suffixed by /2, /3, /b, etc. 

The top 10 surnames in these families are: SALTIEL (1 360), SASON (479), SALEM (301), SHAKI (294), SHIMSHI (252), SHELOMO (249), SHOEL (213), SHALOM (198), SABETAI et SAOUL (177).
