The association 

        The CERCLE DE GENEALOGIE JUIVE (CGJ) is the first Jewish Genealogical Society in France. Founded in 1984, the CGJ has almost 600 members. The CGJ belongs to the International Association of Jewish Genealogical Societies (IAJGS) and to the Fédération Française de Généalogie (FFG).

Events

The General Assembly of Cercle de Généalogie Juive will take place on Sunday April 11, 2010.
Five members of the board will be elected at this date. You can apply before March 9.

   The next conference of the CGJ will take place on Monday, April 12th, 2010 at 6:30 pm, Auditorium of the A.I.U. 45, rue La Bruyère Paris 9e. Roselyne ANZIANI will speak about The Jewish people of Pernes-les-Fontaines. " The pearl of Comtat ", situated on the edge of The Sorgue, near the Mount Ventoux and to 8 km of Carpentras, the " city with forty fountains ", sheltered since the Middle Ages, a Jewish community. Who were these Jews? How did they live ? What is their history, their place among the communities of the Comtat and of the South of France? When and why did they leave?.

News

Our member Fernand Deray collected more than 15,000 vital records of the Jews of Constantine (Algeria), namely 9,900 birth records, 1,200 marriage records and 3,600 death records... to be followed

Our member Jacob Benzazon analyzed a certain number of Ketubot (religious marriage contracts) from Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Gibraltar,Turkey, Greece, Bulgaria, Leghorn, and also a few from Brazil and Portugal.

New Databases concerning NORTH-AFRICAN JEWS
Our Member Jacob Benzazon extracted from the Census of Jews of Leghorn in the years 1753-1807 by Jean-Pierre Filipini (Document F072 in our Library) all names that seem originating from North Africa.
Jacob has also found a Website quoting a great number of weddings in Tunisia. He extracted from this site those where one of the spouses has a Jewish surname.
He also noted an interesting Website concerning the Jewish Cemetery of Tangiers. All these data can be found in our Members' Corner..
